Frozen Ray

Frozen Ray = Justin

Frozen Ray is a music fanatic with a soft spot for hip-hop culture. Both a softspoken rhymer and a serene beatsmith, Ray draws lyrical and musical inspiration from anywhere he can find it, including his favorite anime shows, his life as a Christian, the difficulties and triumphs of everyday life, his own faults and imperfections, and even his favorite video games. He works with what he has and continues to network for great local artists, hip-hop or not, in a mission to slowly revitalize the definition of rap music and culture because, for better or worse, it sure isn’t what it used to be. And since we can’t take it back to Beat Street, or 1994 when hip-hop was at a particularly special zenith, Ray, raised on video games, Marvel comics, techno music and classic gospel, figures he ought to put everything he has to work and contribute what he can. Interestingly enough, it was the “Reanimation” version of Linkin Park’s “High Voltage” that completely redefined what hip-hop could mean for Frozen Ray, especially lyrically.
His favorite rapper is COMMON. Other lyrical inspirations come in the form of Braille, Shing02, Lupe Fiasco, Madvillian/MF Doom/DangerDoom, Kanye West, Kero One, Epik High, Lecrae, Mike Shinoda, Outkast, Maskil, Mos Def, Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, Talib Kweli. The list goes on. Musical inspirations range from everything from Nujabes, Danger Mouse, J Dilla, DJ Okawari, Journey, Fall Out Boy, The Avalanches, Coldplay… list goes on.
